9th Festival of Traditional Culture

Larnaca District Development Agency, with the support of the Community Council Zygi, Women's Association of Rural Larnaca and the Association of Professional Fishermen in Zygi organized on Monday, October 1, 2012, the 9th Festival of Traditional Culture in Zygi Fishing Shelter.

The festival aimed at promoting the female entrepreneurship and the fishing activities in the local region. Fish was the first promotional product of the festival which was offered to visitors. There were also stands with several traditional Cypriot products, such as palouze, trachana, halloumi, honey and carob honey. Representatives from the women's cooperatives in Crete and Lesvos were also invited to exhibit their own gastronomic culture and tradition. Transportation services to Zugi were provided by the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company.

The big turnout (approximately 6,000 visitors) and the strong interest in local traditional activities provide evidence of achievement.

The event was co-funded by the European Fisheries Fund 2007-2013 and the Republic of Cyprus.
