Agrotoepixeirein - Ecoperiigites March 2012 in Crete
Representatives of Larnaca District Development Agency visit Crete
A meeting took place in Crete between representatives of Larnaca District Development Agency and representatives of the Development Agency of Heraklion on the 1st of March 2012, regarding the Programs Agrotoepixirin & Oikoperioigites.
The Project "AGROTOEPICHIRIN" proposed under the “Cross-Border Cooperation Program Greece-Cyprus 2007-13” is required to meet the needs identified under its area of interference. Through this program, different actions will be implemented; having visible, substantial and sustainable results that will be transferred to a wide range of development processes performed locally. Project areas of interest are the agro-tourism services for food and shelter, the processing of agricultural products and the production of local traditional products.
The program ‘’OIKOPERIOIGITES’’ has as a main objective the direct application of the Project’s principles, creating public awareness among stakeholders and residents in order for the actions taken to have an effective impact. This integrated approach aims at a long term perspective, incorporating both environmental care and education as a priority over the threats of climate change, putting forth cultural values as a tool for demonstrating the identity and competitiveness in this intense global socio-economic environment.
During the meeting there was a discussion towards the establishment of an office supporting entrepreneurship, development of a business network in the Districts of Larnaca and Famagusta and the training of unemployed men and women in matters relating to local development, within the framework of the Agrotoepichirin Project.
Finally regarding the program Oikoperioigites, a general discussion took place on the creation of a local routes network.
